02.06.2010 The second generation of the “The Governorate Ballet School” Dance College graduates to become artis

diplomOn the International Day of Child Welfare as a part of a charity event the fifth-year graduates of “The Governorate Ballet School” Dance College present their Diploma project “The World called the Art of Dance”. The fifth-year students of “The Governorate Ballet School”, the first College graduates, the second-year students and the students of the “Children Dance School” are to participate in this concert. The show takes place on the 1st of July on stage of Concert and Exhibition Center “Gubernsky” at 18.30.

diplomRed brick mansion situated in Simanovskogo Street has been serving the cause of culture and education for two hundred years now. Today it is a historical monument of the city architecture which keeps under its roof a whole world called the Art of Dance.

The building used to be People's House called “Krasny Tkach”. Now it is a rehearsal base of the National Ballet “Kostroma", "The Governorate Ballet School” Dance College affiliated with the National Ballet “Kostroma” and the “Children Dance School”. It is here that the pupils become students and the students turn into artists. The inhabitants of this house consider it to be their second home and believe they are just one big family since they do not only get a profession here but also acquire great life experience. The motto of those who have taken a decision to entrust themselves to demanding teachers and devote their lives to a difficult though beautiful kind of art, to folk dance, is to achieve their aims through struggle with oneself.

diplomMaria Veshkina, the Director of "The Governorate Ballet School” college affiliated with the National Ballet “Kostroma”, answers the question of how many students are studying in the College now:

“150 talented children from Kostroma and Kostroma region have already taken advantage of the opportunity to get professional quality education in the only choreography school in the region. Our students do not only study to get education but they also enjoy loving, caring and home like atmosphere. They are our children and our future, the future of “The Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” and Kostroma Province, they are heirs of the diversified Russian culture and its mighty traditions”.

diplomThree years ago the first graduates of “The Governorate Ballet School” Dance College commemorated the completion of the five year course by a drive in a posh white limo in the central streets of Kostroma. Sixteen people, Honour to the College and the Ballet, celebrated the end of studies and the beginning of the long waited for professional career in “The Russian National Ballet “Kostroma”.

Today, some years later, a new generation of talented students is ready to join their ranks.

One can not help asking – which graduation class is better? Teachers of folk stage dance of "The Governorate Ballet School" Irina and Aleksei Rubtsov explain:

diplom“No one can say that this or that class is better because they are so unlike each other!” - says Aleksei. Irina, his wife and his collegue, goes on: “At the beginning it was quite difficult to work with this year’s graduates since the students were quite different in terms of choreographic training, physical abilities and age, of course. We had to, so to speak, level them during one-to-one classes and try various teaching methods for some time. It was not the same with the first graduates. In the third and the fourth year we also faced some problems connected with the teenage period when kids have a shift in life priorities. On balance we are satisfied with the achievements of both groups. They came as far as the Diploma project having passed state exams with excellent results; each of them made their own contribution into the process of studying and its program. It is very nice to think that all the students turned into grown up young men and women and professional artists as well right in front of our very eyes”!

diplomAt the moment thirteen fifth-year students are getting ready for a very important event in their professional life – their diploma project.

"The World called the Art of Dance” first appeared on the posters in the city in 2007 as parting words for the graduates and a call for those who are not indifferent to the world of beauty. Since that time every year on the 1st of June “The Governorate Ballet School” Dance College has been giving a traditional charity concert for children from orphanages, boarding schools and children from incomplete and low income families.

It is not just a concert to report the achievements; it is a professionally staged performance consisting of two independent parts - classic dance and folk dance.

“The Governorate Ballet School” is famous for its experimental methods used during the course of studies. In 2007 for the first time in history of choreography schools of Russia Kostroma graduates of the folk department performed an adapted version of “Romeo and Juliet” classic ballet.

diplomThis year Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation and a classic dance teacher Konstantin Matveev and his students made a daring move. For the first time ever the students of “The Governorate Ballet School” are going to perform “Masterpieces of the world classic choreography" without any simplifications of the original dance lexis of Goleizovsky, Petipa, Zaharov, Fokin and other world famous ballet leaders. The fifth-year students are going to show “The Gypsy Dance" from “Don Quixote” ballet (Ekaterina Polyashova), variation of Prince Desire from “The Sleeping Beauty” ballet (Yaroslav Uzyanov), “I do not say Good-bye” (Anastasia Smirnova and Ilya Barabanov), “Hopak” from “Taras Bulba” ballet (Sergei Badanin), “The Dying Swan" (Anna Kulikova), pas de deux from “Don Quixote” ballet (Ekaterina Berezina and è Yuri Vybornov).

diplomAccording to the new tradition the College graduates of the year 2007 are going to support the artist-to-be in choreographic compositions, for instance, Anastasia Maltseva is performing pas de deux from the “Flame of Paris” ballet together with graduate Dmitri Komlev.

In the second part of the concert the graduates of the years 2007 and 2010 are going to perform turns called “Flotsky” and “An odd one out”. The audience is sure to see a kaleidoscopic performance of music, dances, costumes and passions. In the opinion of Irina and Aleksei Rubtsov, the College teachers, boisterous Russians, desperate Gypsies, hot Spaniards, flirty Chinese women, wild Kazakhs – all these characters help artists-to-be to reveal their temper, their souls and potential.

diplomThe fifth-year students’ program includes "Syzran Chizhovniki", “Horse Coach Dance”, “The Gypsy Dance”, “The Chinese Dance”, “The Spanish Dance” and others; it will be interrupted by the performances of “The Governorate Ballet School” second-year students called “Matanya", female sketch "Slow Russian Dance”, “Winter” and a Kalmyk dance “Hadris".

The education in “The Governorate Ballet School” Dance College is based in rich and invaluable experience of Moiseev’s School which is a model of folk choreography. That is why the last dance of the Diploma project performance is going to be a traditional turn called “Jota Aragonesa”. It is one of the most challenging stage performances of Igor Moiseev, the State Prize laureate and People's Artist of USSR, which helps to demonstrate accumulated skills and professionalism of young artist, to show how strong, accurate and emotional they are.

Soon the World called the Art of Dance will open its doors and let everyone in.

Let us wish good luck to the second class of graduates of “The Governorate Ballet School” Dance College on their way to professionalism.

The main target of the dance school "The Governorate Ballet School” is to train young, strong and skilled generations of dancers for “The Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” by combining traditional and experimental educational methods, by instilling patriotism and awakening the feeling of love towards Russian history and culture.
