16.05.2009 Students of “The Governorate Ballet School” took part in the opening of Eurovision 2009 competition.

Students of “The Governorate Ballet School” Dance College Ekaterina Berezina, Ekaterina Polyashova and Anastasia Maltseva took part as part of “The Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” company in a large scale stage performance dedicated to the opening of the second semi-final of the Eurivision 2009 competition.

People from all over the world are keeping track of the events of the most popular singing competition - Eurovision. Our capital meets the long waited for guests. This year Russia managed to do something nobody has ever done before.

From the sensational news of the “First” channel and its live broadcasts from the competition we know about the unique organization of the event. We have all the rights to be proud of the warm welcome of the quests and competitors. This is so typically Russian!

The Ballet received the invitation to participate from a famous actor, director and choreographer Egor Druzhinin. All these days the Ballet has worked with him and his team.

The opening of the second semi-final of Eurovision 2009 took place the day before, on the 14th of May at 11 p. m. It started with a musical potpourri made up from the songs which had ever won the competition. “The Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” danced to these very compositions performed in the Russian style on stage in Olympyisky. One could tell the artists by familiar costumes and pieces from the Ballet’s program – “Celebratory" (Kalinka) and round dance “Volga” which best represented the national character of folk choreography. Two minutes of the bright and quick official part ended with opening of the caption “Eurovision” made of the traditional Russian kerchiefs held by the “Kostroma” girls.

For four days life of "Kostroma" was regulated by the tough schedule for participants of the second semi-final of Eurovision. Frequent shootings, concert rehearsals (always with spectators) helped the artists to feel confident while performing in front of a 20-thousand audience in Olympyisky and a multimillion TV audience in 67 countries of the world. The students can be rightfully proud of their taking part in such a colossal event of an international level because they got great professional experience and became a part of Russian pop art history.

The main target of the dance school "The Governorate Ballet School” is to train young, strong and skilled generations of dancers for “The Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” by combining traditional and experimental educational methods, by instilling patriotism and awakening the feeling of love towards Russian history and culture.
